Metro Animal Control (not Question But Strong Statement)?
First off let me start off saying that to all you people who complain and argue and get upset at Metro Animal Control, learn you facts first before you spit off any comments. Let me ask you a question, do you honestly think that a total of 8 animal control officers can really patrol ALL of Metro Nashville/Davidson county with only about 6 trucks? Do you think that only 4 clerical workers can answer all your calls in a timely manner when everyone yells and screams about a stray dog and who thinks that they are the only person who needs their dog picked up? When they only have 1 and sometimes 2 adoption workers when more than 50 people come in and out of the adoption doors everyday? Do you think that they can handle more that 75 animals on a daily basis coming in the surrender doors? When they can’t a bigger budget because we as tax payers would ***** and moan if taxes went up and supply them with more money for more workers and officers? They only have limited space. Where do you think they should keep ALL the animals that enter the doors. They try everyday as hard as that can to adopt out great animals. But we as a community continue to give them more and more and more animals everyday. “I don’t want him anymore.”; “I’m moving.”, “She’s sick.”; “He got to big.” These are the sad and pathetic statements we make everyday when surrendering our dogs. “I want a small dog.”, “I want a small dog.” That’s want 98% of our community says to the adoption workers everyday. There are more than small dogs on this earth. When you have people asking for nothing but small dogs and turning in dogs everyday where do you think they go. That building is beautiful and it’s overran with animals. People complain about the animals being put to sleep, while they are a kill shelter. If you don’t like it don’t go there or surrender your animals to them. Animals that are put to sleep are sick animals, vicious animals, aggressive animals, and a list of restricted animals who are unavailable to adopt out. People complain that Metro puts all the animals down, well that’s far from the truth. They give animals a fighting chance to be adopted before they put any of them to sleep. People complain that they put animals down after they surrender their animals over to them. Well truth be told if you READ, which most people don’t, when you sign your name on that line you are giving up any say so in what happens to that animal. You are giving them the ownership of that animal and the animal’s disposition is then decided by its new owner. When our community steps up our own responsibility then we can stop blaming Metro Animal Control for our mistakes. We all complain about strays, well if your neighbor steps up their responsibility and keep their own animals in their homes or yards then there would be no strays. Or if our neighbors got their animals spayed or neutered then there wouldn’t be any litters of animals running everywhere. Why don’t you become a volunteer and help. Why don’t you pick that nice stray up and bring it in instead of complaining that Metro isn’t responding to your calls. They recieve over 300 calls a day. Can you work there? I bet you couldn’t and wouldn’t but yet you wanna complain about people who care for the animals. Remember this one statement, Metro doesn’t put the animals to sleep, our community does because we don’t tkae care of our animals enough to keep them off the street and keep them healthy. Or adopting the big dog because he needs a home. We are the ones that holds the animal until it lays there sleeping and eternal sleep. I commend Metro for doing such a great job and making these animal feel safe and wanted even if their days are numbered.

AMEN it is not the animals that are the problem it is poor owners some get dogs that should never have them. when you get a dog you need to be responsiable for that dog til he passes of old age or sickness. good for you for speaking your mind
